18:01:47 <MeetBot> Useful Commands: #action #agreed #help #info #idea #link #topic.
18:02:03 <flexlibris> there are more MeetBot commands at the link I just shared, FYI
18:02:15 <Phoul> Sounds good :)
18:02:16 <flexlibris> anyone else here for the community team meeting? so far it's me, Samdney, Phoul
18:02:32 <flexlibris> okay then, let's get started
18:02:39 <flexlibris> #topic
18:02:44 <ilv> o/
18:02:47 <flexlibris> oh hey ilv
18:02:52 <Samdney> hi ilv
18:03:49 <ilv> hi all :)
18:03:49 <flexlibris> #topic Training and Outreach updates
18:04:21 <flexlibris> I have some training updates myself unless someone else wants to go first
18:04:45 <Phoul> Go for it :)
18:05:05 <flexlibris> I did four trainings in the last couple of weeks:
18:05:38 <flexlibris> one for Political Research Associates (PRA) a US organization that tracks white nationalists and other similar groups, then writes about them
18:05:53 <flexlibris> I trained them on Tor and similar tools that can help with their research
18:06:51 <flexlibris> I also gave a training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, at the Tennessee Library Association conference in Knoxville, Tennessee, and an online training for the American Library Association
18:07:06 <Phoul> Wow, nice! Busy couple weeks
18:07:30 <flexlibris> thanks! that's a normal few weeks actually :) I just don't usually give updates about my trainings in this meeting
18:07:38 <flexlibris> but I thought I should start, so here I am doing that
18:07:39 <Samdney> flexlibris is always on the road :P
18:07:44 <flexlibris> it's true :)
18:08:02 <Phoul> :)
18:08:06 <flexlibris> we can move on to the next topic if no one else has any similar updates
18:08:33 <flexlibris> okay great
18:08:45 <flexlibris> #topic Global South
18:09:12 <ilv> alright, i have some updates
18:09:28 <flexlibris> cool. be sure to use the meetbot commands if they're useful (https://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot)
18:09:55 <ilv> 1.sent the full proposal to otf for tor campaing in latin america (relays + public awareness raising + workshops/trainings)
18:10:11 <ilv> 2.set up a new bandwith server in santiago. afaik measurements to/for this server are being split with one in asia.
18:10:30 <ilv> 3.the talk about tor relays that i submitted for cryptorave was accepted. i'll be working on it the next weeks.
18:10:45 <ilv> (btw, i got the t-shirts and stickers \o/)
18:10:54 <Phoul> \o/
18:10:56 <Samdney> :D
18:11:17 <flexlibris> awesome
18:11:25 <ilv> that's it for me!
18:12:09 <flexlibris> make sure to add your cryptorave talk to the blog calendar ilv
18:12:09 <ilv> i also have some mails to reply to flexlibris about 1)
18:12:13 <ilv> yes
18:12:20 <flexlibris> yes. I'll fill everyone in on that...
18:12:41 <flexlibris> NoiseTor, the part of Noisebridge that runs relays, is interested in supporting more relays in the Global South
18:12:56 <flexlibris> so I connected them with ilv and we're brainstorming what the next best steps might be
18:13:09 <Phoul> Financially, or technically supporting?
18:13:21 <flexlibris> financially, but they have other ideas for resources too
18:13:27 <Phoul> Great!
18:13:36 <flexlibris> they have some funds, but I am trying to think about this in a more longterm way
18:13:57 <flexlibris> it would be great for them to donate funds for a short period, like 12 months, but maybe we could seek funding to do this for a few years
18:14:10 <Phoul> If they need assitance on the technical support side, coldhak is happy to help. We dont have money like noisetor though.
18:14:15 <flexlibris> anyway, we'll give updates on that at the next meeting. we've just begun talking about it.
18:14:52 <ilv> Phoul: awesome, i'll be sending you some emails :D
18:14:52 <flexlibris> I have some more Global South updates...
18:15:28 <flexlibris> sukhe isn't here so I'll make sure everyone knows about his outreach efforts
18:15:48 <flexlibris> he got a talk accepted at Open Data Camp in Bangalore
18:16:00 <flexlibris> it's put on by Google India
18:16:27 <flexlibris> this is a really big deal because sukhe has wanted to do outreach in India for some time, but wasn't getting any responses from the organizations he'd contacted
18:16:34 <flexlibris> so I hope this can establish him in the community some
18:16:52 <flexlibris> he's going to talk about how open data advocates can use Tor
18:16:53 <Phoul> Thats awesome! Glad they responded to him.
18:17:24 <flexlibris> I've also started gathering information about a future Tor Meeting in the Global South
18:18:31 <flexlibris> I'm collecting info like travel costs, distance for most participants, visa requirements, internet concerns like censorship and speed, and fun stuff like food and culture
18:18:43 <ilv> great, i hope to catch on that soon enough
18:18:50 <flexlibris> cool!
18:18:51 <Samdney> "food and culture" yeah :P
18:19:50 <flexlibris> so far, my favorite on the list is Mexico City, but I might be biased because the flight is about one hour for me :)
18:20:19 <Phoul> hehe, nice and close
18:20:23 <flexlibris> also, we now have two communication channels for Global South specific discussion: tor-south@lists.tpo, and #tor-south on IRC
18:20:50 <flexlibris> oh, one more Global South related thing
18:21:02 <Samdney> ... and both needs more advertising
18:21:27 <flexlibris> I applied for the Lush Digital Fund, which is some money that the company Lush raised for fighting global censorship
18:21:50 <flexlibris> in my proposal I requested to use this specifically for Tor Global South work
18:22:06 <flexlibris> I just found out we made it to the second round, so I'll be submitting that application in the next few weeks. wish me luck!
18:22:18 <ilv> \o/!
18:22:39 <flexlibris> if we get it, that's possibly some more funding for GS relays
18:22:40 <Phoul> Awesome! Might be a silly question, but is this "lush" the like... secented soap company, or something else?
18:22:50 <flexlibris> that's the one!
18:22:55 <Phoul> Neat!
18:22:56 <flexlibris> they sold bars of soap printed with 404
18:22:59 <flexlibris> and all the proceeds went to this fund
18:23:12 <Phoul> Surprised I didnt hear about that, they are huge here. Thats awesome!
18:23:25 <flexlibris> yeah, they are a Canadian company right?
18:23:30 <Phoul> I think so
18:23:46 <flexlibris> anything else on that topic?
18:24:13 <flexlibris> okay then
18:24:21 <flexlibris> #topic Support poral (and outreach portal) updates
18:24:59 <flexlibris> I can give this update and Phoul you can fill in what I missed, if that's cool
18:25:05 <Phoul> Sounds good :)
18:25:17 <flexlibris> we now meet every Monday with the UX team to talk about website redesign progress
18:25:22 <flexlibris> which the support portal is part of
18:26:00 <flexlibris> our main focus has been getting content together for the portal. we're also now starting to work on sitemapping and content for the outreach portal, which would be outreach.torproject.org and would contain things like training materials, brochures in different languages, etc
18:26:47 <Samdney> (is this the normal ux team meeting? maybe I will join, too.)
18:26:47 <flexlibris> anyone who is interested can join the weekly meeting on jitsi, mondays at 1500 UTC (i think right?)
18:27:16 <Samdney> time is right. :)
18:27:18 <Phoul> That time is right :)
18:27:26 <flexlibris> we have a long way to go and it's hard to figure out what work should be prioritized for this, since we don't technically have the funding yet :)
18:28:04 <flexlibris> but at the very least we know we need content so we're working on that
18:28:29 <flexlibris> but the funding stuff is why we don't have a set timeline or projected launch date for the support portal testing site
18:29:30 <flexlibris> that's all I have -- Phoul did I miss anything?
18:29:47 <Samdney> (btw, has the ux team any notes from their meetings?)
18:30:02 <flexlibris> Linda puts updates on the list after the meetings
18:30:22 <Samdney> ah, ok. Will have a look :D
18:30:30 <linda> :D
18:30:32 <linda> join us~~
18:30:38 <flexlibris> hey there linda!
18:30:45 <Samdney> hi linda :D
18:30:46 <linda> we meet on https://meet.jit.si/TorUX
18:30:52 <linda> hehe hi flexlibris Samdney
18:30:55 <Phoul> We ( flexlibris and I ) added a bunch more questions/answers to the content document in git (in the pad already). ilv, did you still want to help with the operator document?
18:31:33 <flexlibris> oh that reminds me, Phoul did you see tjr's feedback about that on the mailing list
18:31:47 <ilv> Phoul: yes!
18:31:52 <Phoul> The part about putting the operator document outside of support?
18:31:56 <Phoul> Or is there a different email
18:32:03 <ilv> i couldn't take a look at it the past weeks, but i will
18:32:18 <flexlibris> yeah that one Phoul
18:32:42 <Phoul> Yeah, will have to give some thought to that. I dont disagree with him, but the questions I put in the document come from things people ask our support channel.
18:32:58 <flexlibris> yeah that's what I said in my response too
18:33:24 <flexlibris> I just wanna bear it in mind, cause it's likely that people might share his concerns that this is gonna be a place for all the operator support or something
18:34:02 <flexlibris> I have a few more small miscellaneous items unless there is more to discuss re the support portal
18:34:03 <Phoul> Makes sense. I don't think the portal should become the operator portal. Maybe there is a logical way to split this so we get both.
18:34:17 <Phoul> Thats all for support portal, I think.
18:34:27 <flexlibris> i think we'll just link to some more in-depth op support in any of our answers about relays
18:34:37 <Phoul> Yeah :)
18:34:43 <flexlibris> cool
18:34:48 <flexlibris> #topic miscellaneous
18:35:18 <flexlibris> the social contract is still in its voting period until 25 April. if you are eligible to vote, please vote on this (simple yes or no)!
18:35:36 <flexlibris> it already passed by rough consensus when we first wrote it, so this vote is merely a formality, but we don't want to miss quorum!
18:36:20 <flexlibris> I collected feedback from attendees of the Amsterdam meeting and I'm currently reviewing them before we start planning the Montreal meeting
18:36:47 <Samdney> do we have already a date for Montreal?
18:36:51 <flexlibris> no
18:37:25 <flexlibris> that's basically it for me
18:37:27 <flexlibris> anyone else have updates?
18:37:56 <ilv> not here
18:38:04 <Samdney> no
18:38:24 <flexlibris> love it when meetings are under an hour
18:38:37 <Phoul> Brief transifex update: I'm compiling a list of active translators to send to Jon for tshirts
18:38:43 <flexlibris> awesome
18:38:46 <flexlibris> they deserve it
18:38:49 <Phoul> Agreed :)
18:39:03 <Phoul> Thats all from me
18:39:08 <flexlibris> great
18:39:18 <flexlibris> i'll get the meetbot logs out to tor-project and put them on the community team wiki
18:39:21 <flexlibris> #endmeeting
